Restorative Yoga
Puerto de la Cruz
A practice for stopping, resting and allowing body and mind to find a deep state of relaxation.
Restorative Yoga grows out of the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and his focus on using props to adapt the postures and make them accessible and sustainable. In this practice, the body does not need to make an effort to stay in a posture: the different supports allow us to find a comfortable, stable position in which we can simply let go and receive.

The classes are very calm and take place mainly on the floor. We use props such as bolsters, blocks, blankets, straps and cushions to support the body and create the greatest possible comfort. The postures are held for several minutes, giving time for the breath to become more natural, for tension to ease and for the body to move gradually from activity into rest.
The practice also incorporates Pranayama and conscious breathing techniques, which help us to direct our attention inwards and create a state of greater calm and presence.
Unlike a practice in which we aim to improve our flexibility or reach a particular shape, here there is nothing to achieve. The challenge lies precisely in allowing ourselves to stop doing, to let go of effort and to trust the support we have created.
Restorative Yoga can be especially valuable at times when we need to recover and slow down: after an intense week, after periods of a lot of physical activity, or during phases in which the body needs more rest and care. It can also accompany recovery from an injury, always respecting individual needs and limitations.
Even when our body needs to stop, we do not have to disconnect from our practice. Restorative Yoga allows us to keep cultivating a conscious relationship with the body, the breath and ourselves from a place of listening and respect.
Restorative Yoga is an invitation to make space for yourself, to listen to what you need and to remember that resting is also part of the practice.
A class for those looking to relax deeply, release tension, recover and reconnect with themselves from a place of calm and presence.
